The 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Riadh (Saudia Arabia) voted on 14.11.2023 to ignore the strong recommendation of the World Heritage Centre and its Advisory Bodies ICCOMOS and ICROM to assign Venice and the Lagoon to the list of Endangered World Heritage.
WahV has been advocating for the inclusion of Venice in the list since 2015. As explained in our letter to all the country delegates, it is against the interests of UNESCO as an Institution to turn a blind eye to Venice’s non compliance with its requirements, as stipulated in the 1972 Convention on World Heritage, after six years of warnings, promises, extensions according to the objective evaluation of this by UNESCO’s appointed technical experts.
