In February 2021 Joseph Phelan from the BBC spoke to We are here Venice about plans to adapt to sea level rise while averting the risk of sinking.
The city of Venice has always struggled against the sea and managed occasional flooding. However, this is now happening with increasing frequency and flood forecasting is becoming more complex due to extreme events and rising average water levels related to the climate crisis. Meanwhile,

We are here Venice also gave insights about what has been done to protect the city and issues surrounding adaptation. The city is nonetheless a “source of inspiration“, with the potential to demonstrate that positive changes can avert future disasters.
