WahV has been selected by the City of Venice to participate in the Civic Crowdfunding initiative to support the project “ONDEW* – Let’s address climate change together“. The project has a total cost of 10,000€: We managed to reach 5,000€ (50% of the budget) through this campaign, so the City of Venice co-financed the remaining 50%. Civic Crowdfunding is part of the plan of interventions addressed to the Third Sector within the PON Metro 14-20, aimed to support the implementation of social innovation projects capable of meeting the needs of the city and its inhabitants.
The ONDEW project intends to involve the Venetian community throughout three events in May, September and October 2022, including the community originating from Bangladesh, in particular from the Shariatpur region, where severe flooding has invaded the coastal areas and forced the inhabitants to emigrate. Among them, many have immigrated to Venice, where paradoxically they face a similar risk.
The Bangladeshi community comes from a social and cultural context generally little known, and it struggles to be integrated. The involvement of this community around issues related to the entire citizenship, aims to create an opportunity for exchange of knowledge, for building a vision for the future focusing on the issue of shared climate risk.
*Ondew comes from the combination of ONDE + DEW (wave in bangla)
