We are here Venice contributed to the Report World Heritage Watch 2022 describing the current unsustainability of the governance of Venice’s deteriorating condition and uncertain destiny.
The organization World Heritage Watch is committed to ensuring that world heritage is not sacrificed to political compromises and economic interests, supporting UNESCO in obtaining complete and correct information on the situation of the sites. For this reason, in their latest report we contributed with an article titled “The present situation of Venice and its Lagoon is unsustainable” (pg. 178-180) in which we provide evidence of the current critical issues affecting the city and the lagoon.

In the article we renew our appeal to all the relevant institutions to recognize the endangered status of Venice and the lagoon and thereby help to trigger the necessary response as the significance of Venice and the lagoon as one World Heritage Site is now especially relevant in the face of the climate emergency.
